Information about the Mountain Law

To improve road user safety, vehicles (passenger cars and heavy goods vehicles) travelling in the 34 designated departments (see map below) must be equipped with 4 winter tyres or anti-slip devices / recovery equipment. Vehicle traffic in areas not covered by the regulation may also be restricted in the event of snowfall.

The Mountain Law applies from 1 November 2023 to 31 March 2024.

The Mountain Law in force this winter

Complying with the Mountain Law allows users to travel safely and also ensures that they can be compensated by insurance companies in the event of an accident. Indeed, some insurance contracts specify that damage caused without equipment such as recovery chains will not be covered. Stay alert!
